I finally got my hands on a copy of Octobers Country Homes and Interiors and was very chuffed to see Rose included in the main article, taking up a whole page to herself! With the very apt title “Enjoy an aperitif”
My love of interior design means my home becoming my main canvas. Last month I decided the kitchen was in desperate need of an update, especially as they say it is the heart of any home… It is still a working progress but with the help of my families business Thyme for Kitchens and my fab brother Joseph it is beginning to take shape and I’ve picked up some quirky interesting things along the way, to hopefully add a twist. Below are some before pics; hopefully in the next post I will be able to show the finished product!
At the start of the year my sister got her student visa enabling her to live in New York so I’ve just got back from visiting her. New York never disappoints being described as the cultural capital of the world.
I got my fix visiting MoMa and The Guggenheim, which I found very inspiring, especially Aten Reign (2013) by James Turrell, a major new project that recasts the Guggenheim rotunda as an enormous volume filled with shifting artificial and natural light.
Of course I couldn’t go to New York without a trip to the infamous Brooklyn Flea, my favourite market in the world…! My new kitchen will stand proud when it sees what I picked up from there!
Well, I have kitchen cupboards to paint and plate racks to fix so until next time…“Have a nice day…”
It’s a far cry from last time I said down and wrote a blog post and we are now in the full throws of summer, Woo hoo! What a perfect time to introduce my exciting new project “Legless”, upcycling mid-century tables and chairs by covering just their legs with vintage fabric, giving a whole new meaning to the phrase legless! They will soon be featured on Etsy.
This also leads me onto another exciting project that my good friend Bec Russell-Turner and I are in the process of presenting, a lifestyle exhibition/pop-up shop. This will include amongst other things Bec’s gorgeous silk devorated paintings, my suitcase cupboards and the debut of legless! and will probably take place nearer the end of the year. We are currently looking for a suitable space in West London so if anyone knows of anything, please do let me know.
Rose was taken off a couple of weeks ago for a photoshoot in Country Homes and Interiors, after Evelyn featuring in their May edition, they are almost becoming regulars in the magazine!
Until next time top up those tans and get ready for the preview party fr our exhibition, date to be confirmed…
Happy New Year! I don’t think it’s too late to say that!? Anyway the Chinese have only just celebrated their New Year!
2013…Despite doomsday being predicted for 21st December we are all still alive and kicking, So far so good!
I went to Paris a couple of weeks ago, such a beautiful city and defiantly in my top 10! And to make it even better I was shown around by my French boyfriend! Apart from obviously drinking far too much amazing French wine and eating copious amount of Camembert, I went to Marché aux Puces de Saint-Ouen. The French have cottoned onto our love of their furniture design though and unfortunately there weren’t any bargains to be had…
Rose, Edith and Darcy have found a new home in a little boutique in Dorking called No5 Interiors, a lovely little shop that specialises in upcycled, old and antique furniture, sourced directly from suppliers in France, Holland and Eastern Europe. They also hand make bespoke furniture from reclaimed timber so antique in its own right! So pop in and meet the lovely Monika if you are ever passing through Dorking.
I have finally put two of my suitcases up on the wall in my flat. It is great to see them working as a functional piece of Art in a proper lifestyle situation. They have finally come to life…
I’ve had a very exciting week and have been accepted to take part in City Showcase; Soho flea market, which is the most glamorous flea market around! Highlighting new creative talent whilst launching a unique new event for London. Soho will be closed to traffic and transformed into a hub of creativity with musicians and comedians performing and emerging creatives displaying their work.
I’m going to be showcasing my latest project. Vintage leather suitcases lined with beautiful vintage fabric which I have upcyled into cupboards to be mounted on the wall, making a centre piece in any room.
They are visually eye catching as well as being perfectly practical! (Surprisingly they can actually hold quite a heavy load!)
I have designed each suitcase so they are completely unique with their own personality and story to tell. Following the theme of World war II and the evacuation suitcases, each one will have it’s own name and evacuation number.
So put Sunday 27th May in your diary’s now and get yourselves down to Soho. In the meantime here is a sneek peak…
